Reactive power control relays are designed to reduce reactive power (inductive and capacitive) that is not used by the load and is drawn from the grid. If inductive power is drawn from the grid, the relay intervenes by removing a capacitor of an appropriate value. If capacitive power is drawn from the electricity grid, it intervenes by taking a shunt inductor of the correct value. In this way, it attempts to reduce the inductive/active and capacitive/active rates of the system. It is designed to provide a more reasonable compensation in unbalanced inductive and capacitive systems with the RGT-MT18 TCR step.
